History Silk Scarf – Color planes

This scarf is drawn from an original 1942 design, initially printed as a gift for war veterans.

It is crafted from a bespoke 35 momme silk twill, woven in a renowned region of China known for producing some of the world’s finest silks, with full traceability back to the farms.

The design is created using a traditional hand screen-printing technique known as dye and discharge. This process uses specialised dyes and print tastes that penetrate the fibre without lateral spread, removing and replacing the base color with exceptional precision.

Printing is carried out by Adamley, the last remaining silk screen printer in the United Kingdom, in their historic mill in Macclesfield (Cheshire), at the end of the Silk Road.

Each scarf is finished with hand-roller edges in France.
